Origin
Chiron is the son of Cronus and the nymph Philyra. Unlike the other centaurs, known to be wild, he is wise, gentle and learned. He knows medicine, music, hunting and astronomy.
The story
He becomes the teacher of the greatest heroes: he raises Achilles, trains Jason and teaches medicine to Asclepius, who will become the god of healing. His cave on Mount Pelion is a true school.
One day an arrow of Heracles, dipped in the blood of the Hydra, wounds him by accident. Being immortal, Chiron can neither heal nor die. He finally gives up his immortality so that his suffering may end, and Zeus places him among the stars.
The symbol
Chiron, the celestial body, was discovered in 1977 by Charles Kowal. It is a small body that travels between Saturn and Uranus, from a family fittingly called the centaurs.
In astrology, Chiron stands for your most sensitive wound, and the way it can become a strength for you and for others. It is nicknamed the wounded healer.
